What is KPrint

KPrint is Kellogg's printing system that allows you to print, scan, copy, and fax (if available) from any device at Kellogg campus locations. Just tap your Wildcard or enter your NetID credentials to release your document at any KPrint printer. The printers are energy efficient, entering sleep mode when not in use and waking up automatically when someone approaches.

Connecting to KPrint

The recommended method for student printing at Kellogg is to use the KPrint Web Portal. Please refer to our KPrint Web Portal article for submitting print jobs via the web.

How to Release Print Jobs

Register with Printers for Quick Login and Release

Our printers have two ways to make releasing your jobs quick and easy. This section covers how to get set up for Wildcard tap-to-release, and touchless release using a QR Code.

Wildcard tap-to-release

To allow quicker log in, you can register your Wildcard's RFID chip so you can more easily tap to log into Kprint Printers. To complete this one time registration, walk up to any Kprint printer and:

Touchless release using QR Code

You can release your print jobs in the KPrint system without ever touching the screen on the printer.  You can use your phone to release the job.  First you need to register your phone or mobile device to the KPrint system.

Registering your mobile device

  1. Make sure your device is connected to the eduroam WiFi network.
  2. From your mobile device, click this link: https://kprint.kellogg.northwestern.edu:9164/setup
  3. Instructions should appear to register your mobile device to the KPrint system.  Once your phone has been registered, you can follow the steps below for Touchless Release.

Touchless Release using QR Code

Once your mobile device has been registered, you can use it to release print jobs. 

  1. Send a print job to the KPrint system.
  2. Open the camera on your mobile device.
  3. Point the camera at the QR Code on the KPrint Printer.
  4. Click on the tab that appears at the top of your phone.
  5. Enter your NetID and Password.
  6. Select Login.
  7. Select the print jobs you would like to release.
  8. Select Release.

Copy, Scan, and Fax Features

Copying instructions

  1. Log in to the printer by either tapping your WildCard or logging in with your NetID credentials
  2. Touch Device Functions.
  3. Touch Copy.
  4. Place the original documents in the printer:
    1. Document Feeder: Lay the pages face up.
    2. Flatbed Scanner: Lay the pages face down, aligned to the top left corner, and close the lid.
  5. Enter the number copies to be made, using the touch pad. 
  6. Scroll through the screen to select additional Options (example stapling, hole punch, etc.).
  7. Press the START button to begin copying.
    1. If copying multiple pages on the flatbed scanner, remove first page and place the second page on the scanner, then close the lid and press START.  When you are finished with your last page, press #.
  8. Touch your Wildcard to the card reader or touch Log Out.

Scanning instructions

  1. Log in to the printer by either tapping your WildCard or logging in with your NetID credentials
  2. Touch Scan
  3. Make a scan destination selection (if you would like to scan to USB see the section below):
    1. Select Scan to My Email to scan to your email address.
    2. Select Scan to Google Drive, Scan to OneDrive, or Scan to Dropbox to scan to your personal cloud account.  Follow the instructions on the screen to scan to one of these destinations.
    3. The first time you scan to an cloud account you will receive an email prompting you for next steps.
    4. Once you have completed your scan, it will arrive as an attachment to your email. If you sent to a cloud account, you will receive an email with a link to the scan.
  4. If you’re loading the document in the Feeder Tray: Lay the pages face up.
  5. Touch Start Scanning. 
    1. When your scan job is complete, touch your Wildcard to the card reader to Log Out.
  6. If you’re scanning from the Flatbed Scanner: Lay the pages face down aligned to the top left corner and close the lid.
    1. If you are scanning more than one page on the flatbed scanner, select the Prompt for more pages box prior to scanning.
    2. Touch Start Scanning
    3. Select Scan more pages to add pages to the document or Scan new document to scan a separate file.
    4. Select Finish when you are done scanning.
  7. Touch your Wildcard to the card reader to Log Out.

Scan to Memory Storage Device

If you would like to scan your files and save them to a local USB device, rather than one of the options above please follow these steps:

  1. Log in to the printer by either tapping your WildCard or logging in with your NetID credentials
  2. Select Device Functions in the middle of the display screen.
  3. Touch Print/Scan (Memory Storage Device).
  4. Touch Scan-To-Storage Device
  5. With Storage Location highlighted, choose the root folder and subfolder(s) to scan to.
  6. Select Scan Settings.
  7. Apply the scan setting(s) for the current scan.
  8. Touch Start.
  9. When finished with the operation, touch the USB Icon at the bottom left of the screen.
  10. At the Select the Memory Device to be Removed screen, touch OK and remove your USB.
  11. Touch your Wildcard on the printer’s card reader to logout.

Fax Instructions (where applicable)

  1. Log in to the printer by either tapping your WildCard or logging in with your NetID credentials
  2. Touch Device Functions in the middle of the display screen.
  3. Touch Fax.
  4. Touch +Add
  5. Enter fax number using the keypad on the touchscreen
    Note: NU's phone system requires you enter 91, then the fax number including area code (e.g., 918471234567)
    4. Load document(s) in feeder or on glass
    5. Select Start to send fax
  6. When your fax job is sent, touch your Wildcard to the card reader to Log Out.
  7. A confirmation sheet will be printed when your fax is successfully sent.
