Connecting to Network Drives

Before You Start:

Connect to a Network Drive

Windows 11 Instructions:

  1. Tap the Windows key on your keyboard or click the Start Menu.
  2. Type This PC and open it.
  3. At the top, click on the three-dot menu (···) and select Map network drive.
    Alternatively, you can search for “Map Network Drive” directly from the Start Menu.
  4. In the Drive dropdown, choose a letter not already assigned (e.g., G:).
  5. In the Folder field, enter the network path. Refer to the Network Drives Table below for the correct path.
  6. Check Reconnect at sign-in.
  7. Click Finish.
  8. When prompted, enter your credentials:
    • Username: kellogg\YourNetID
    • Password: Your NetID password
  9. (Optional) Check Remember my credentials if you don’t want to enter your password each time.
  10. Click OK. Your network drive will appear under This PC in File Explorer.

Note: After changing your NetID password, restart your computer and log in with your new password to reconnect to mapped drives.


macOS (Ventura/Sonoma and Newer) Instructions:

  1. Make sure you are connected to the Northwestern network or VPN.
  2. Open Finder.
  3. Press Command (⌘) + K or go to the top menu Go > Connect to Server.
  4. In the Server Address field, type:

(See the Network Drives Table below for the correct path.)

  1. Click + to save it to your favorite servers (optional).
  2. Click Connect.
  3. When prompted for authentication, enter:
    • Username: kellogg\YourNetID
    • Password: Your NetID password
  4. (Optional) Choose to Remember this password in your keychain.
  5. Click OK. The shared network drive will mount and appear in Finder > Locations or Shared.

Automatically Reconnect at Login (macOS):

  1. Open System Settings.
  2. Go to Users & Groups and select your account.
  3. Click Login Items.
  4. Click the ‘+’ button, then select the mounted network drive, or drag the drive icon from Finder to the Login Items list.
  5. Close System Settings. Your Mac will reconnect to this drive automatically after each login.
