Slack is a cloud-based messaging platform designed for group chats, file sharing, and instant messaging. At Kellogg, there are dedicated channels and workspaces for each class cohort (ie, FT 1Y, FT 2Y, E/W), along with a separate workspace for Kellogg staff.
Once you are admitted to Kellogg, Full-Time and Evening/Weekend students will be automatically added to Slack. JVs are also eligible for Slack accounts and can sign up at this link. Note that your Slack login username and password are unique to Slack—you will not use your NetID and NetID password to access this workspace.
Please review the attached PDF of Kellogg's community standards and guidelines, also known as "The Slack Commandments."
For any questions related to the student Slack workspaces, please reach out to Student Experience. Access to Slack will be revoked upon graduation
While Canvas is the primary platform for coursework communication, if a faculty member chooses to use Slack for course-related discussions, the following steps apply:
Note: Slack channel membership does not automatically update with course enrollments. Students must invite anyone who adds the course to the channel.
Slack for Staff is managed by a group of volunteers known as the "Slack Squad," and the workspace can be accessed at kelloggkommunity.slack.com. Staff members can log in using their NetID and password.
To create a new Slack channel, click the + next to Channels, name your channel, choose your privacy setting (toggle "Make private" for an invite-only channel), and click Create.
Q: My slack account stopped working - what do I do?
A: If you're a recent graduate, your access ends upon graduation. If not, your account may have been deactivated due to inactivity, but it can be reactivated by contacting your workspace’s support admin.
Q: I forgot my password - how can I reset it?
A: To reset passwords for the Kellogg student Slack workspaces, use the app's password reset feature. For workspaces with NetID passwords, reset your password here: NU Validate
Q: How do I get access to a Kellogg workspace?
A: See Accessing Slack above.
Q: Can I invite non-Kellogg people to a Kellogg workspace?
A: Information regarding JV access is in the Accessing Slack section above. You can request Single-Channel guest access for other non-Kellogg people through the Slack app; the admin(s) will review and approve/deny the request.
Q: I'm a student - when do I lose access to Slack?
A: Access to Slack ends when you graduate from Kellogg.
