Panopto: Record and Post Short Videos


Use this guide below to set up and log in to your Panopto account. Then, follow the sections below on how record and share your videos.

Download and Install Panopto

  1. Log into the Panopto website at https://kellogg-northwestern.hosted.panopto.com/
  2. In the upper right corner of the page, click on Download Panopto

 

  1. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation

 

Logging into Panopto

  1. In a web browser (e.g., Firefox, Chrome), go to https://kellogg-northwestern.hosted.panopto.com/
  2. Choose NU ADFS from the drop-down list and click on Sign In

 

  1. Enter your NetID & NetID password

 

  1. Once logged in, you will see your Panopto home page:

Creating a Recording

Merging Videos

Panopto allows you to merge any two sessions together. This is referred to as a Separated Recording. To combine a Separated Recording:

  1. Log into the Panopto website at https://kellogg-northwestern.hosted.panopto.com/
  2. Follow the Merge and Copy instructions

Inserting a Clip into a Video

To add an introduction or new content into an existing video:

  1. Log into the Panopto website at https://kellogg-northwestern.hosted.panopto.com/
  2. Follow the Inserting a Clip into a Video

Renaming a Video

  1. Log into the Panopto website at https://kellogg-northwestern.hosted.panopto.com/
  2. Locate the video that you wish to rename
  3. Click the Settings icon

 

  1. The Overview section will open - click the Edit link next to the name

 

 

Share and Distribute Video

Sharing Video (Direct Links)

Panopto is also a media hosting platform. Any existing media content or videos you create can be shared with specific people, all of Kellogg & Northwestern, or just your students; your content can also be made public.

To share your videos (direct link OR embed code):

  1. Log into the Panopto website at https://kellogg-northwestern.hosted.panopto.com/
  2. Follow the How to Share a Video instructions

Post to your Canvas Folder (from Panopto)

By default, videos you create on your computer will upload into My Folder in Panopto. If you have a Canvas course, it will appear under My Folder, and your students will already have access to this folder (via the Panopto for Kellogg folder in Canvas course).

  1. Log into the Panopto website at https://kellogg-northwestern.hosted.panopto.com/
  2. Follow the How to Batch Copy and Move Videos instructions

Posting to your Panopto for Kellogg (From Canvas)

If you have a video clip or media file stored locally on your computer and want to share with your students:

  1. Log into Canvas and go to your course
  2. In the left nav, click on the Panopto for Kellogg folder

 

  1. To upload, click on Create > Upload Media

 

  1. Click on Choose video or audio files and select the file(s) you wish to upload
