Kellogg Information Systems, in partnership with the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, offers the Kellogg community access to the NUworkspace web-based Windows virtual desktop environment. NUworkspace provides software access from any web browser. No software installation is required.
NUworkspace leverages the Apporto secure cloud-based platform to offer users a Windows virtual desktop with a suite of software applications for University work. Its purpose is to provide eligible faculty, students, and staff with access to programs that are not available on their current desktop or laptop computers. See the Getting Started with Apporto video tutorial for a demo of the service. For additional information about NUworkspace, see: https://nuworkspace.northwestern.edu/.
For information regarding other applications or for general software availability information, please visit the following resources:
NOTE: Virtual desktops are available via a secure web interface. Users authenticate with their NetID credentials. Additional information about NUworkspace and the applications available here: https://nuworkspace.northwestern.edu/.
Within NUworkspace, you can access cloud storage services (like OneDrive, Google Drive, DropBox) to edit or save files. You can also transfer working files between the virtual desktop and your local computer.
While you can access cloud storage services via the web browser, you can also connect them with your virtual machine to access files and folders using Windows File Explorer. See Mounting a Cloud Drive for instruction to connect Apporto to your cloud service account or the Mounting a Cloud Drive video tutorial.
You can upload existing files to Apporto for editing or save files you create in Apporto to your computer using the buttons in the Apporto session panel (top menu). See Uploading and Downloading Files for instructions on transferring files between Apporto and your computer.
Apporto offers a Windows Virtual Desktop environment that includes many software titles. After selecting the App Store application you intend to use primarily, you will have access to all other available software in each virtual desktop session.
