Kiosk and Lab Stations at Global Hub, McManus and Wieboldt Hall

Article overview

Kellogg Virtual Desktop

The Kellogg community can access a Windows virtual desktop to utilize a suite of applications and special software. This service, available through NUworkspace, provides software access from any web-browser. No local software installation is required.

No need to utilize traditional kiosk or lab station computers for special software, you can avoid shared spaces and using shared equipment by connecting to a virtual desktop from your own computer. For more information about using a virtual desktop, please click here. The software titles included in NUworkspace are the same offerings available from Kellogg kiosk stations.

Computing Kiosk and Lab Stations at Global Hub, McManus Living Center and Wieboldt Hall

Kellogg Kiosk stations located at the Global Hub, McManus Living Center, and Wieboldt Hall are connected to NUworkspace, leveraging the Apporto secure cloud-based platform to offer users a Windows virtual desktop with a suite of software applications for University work. Its purpose is to provide faculty, students, and staff with access to programs that are not available on their current desktop or laptop computers. See the Getting Started with Apporto video tutorial for a service demo and features overview. For additional information about NUworkspace, see: https://nuworkspace.northwestern.edu/. NUworkspace Basics

Apporto offers a Windows Virtual Desktop environment that includes many software titles. After selecting the App Store application you intend to use primarily, you will have access to all other available software in each virtual desktop session.

Accessing and Saving your Files

Within NUworkspace, you can access cloud storage services (like OneDrive, Google Drive, DropBox) to edit or save files.

While you can access cloud storage services via the web browser, you can also connect them with your virtual machine to access files and folders using Windows File Explorer. See Mounting a Cloud Drive for instructions to connect Apporto to your cloud service account or the Mounting a Cloud Drive video tutorial.
